Ireland’s UEFA Regions Cup representatives Leinster & Munster commence their Intermediary Round Group Six programme with a real test against England’s representatives Jersey on Wednesday.

The Irish select are managed by Republic of Ireland Amateur international team manager Gerry Smith and they will be hoping for a similar result to the Amateur international side’s 2-1 victory over their Jersey counterparts at Whitehall in November.

“The Jersey squad has a lot of the players that were used in that fixture and they were a very impressive outfit so we’ve no doubts about the size of the task facing us,” said Smith.

“Their side had to come through a long process to qualify to represent England, including a victory over the Isle of Man away in front of 3,000 people. They’ve also been together once a week since September so they are very well organised.

“Most tournaments start off very cagey as nobody wants to get off to a slow start. We know what’s expected of us and no matter how well you prepare it’s all down to how you perform in the game.

“The players have all settled in well. We have no injury problems and we’re looking forward to the competition.”
