Greene impressed by Sligo boss
At the launch of the Airtricity League in the Aviva stadium extratime.ie caught up with Sligo Rover's prodigal son Aaron Greene.
After swapping the Rovers in Sligo for the Rovers in Tallaght, Greene has returned to Sligo for the forthcoming season; a place he holds in high regard. "It's a bit surreal to come back to a club that I've always felt at home with."
After a disappointing season last year, the former Irish under 21 international is primed and ready to go with the Bit O' Red. "I didn't play a lot last year, but I looked after myself in the off-season with a personal trainer that the club provided, so I'm very much looking forward to the season.
Sligo Rovers will be looking to defend the title for the first time in the club's history as they embark on the upcoming campaign. The Dublin born player is under no illusions of the task that awaits him. "We've a good bunch of players, but the league is looking very strong this year. I think it's going to be between a lot of teams, not just one or two."
Even though Aaron Greene is only 23, he has now played under five different managers in the League, and under four different managers (Paul Cook, Stephen Kenny, Brian Laws and Ian Baraclough) in the last 18 months. We asked him, just how life is under the man who delivered Sligo town it's first league trophy in 35 years. The response was a ringing endorsement of the man who was destined for academy football before the Sligo Rovers job opened up.
"He's been brilliant. Probably the best manager that I've worked with since I've been playing. I've been with five good managers, and professionally I've never met anyone like him. The way he does his day to day business, how he wants everyone to play, he made me feel at home straight away from my first training session."
