Corcoran and Walsh sign for UCD
UCD have signed striker Dinny Corcoran and Craig Walsh for the upcoming season.
Walsh joins the students from Longford Town where his 2012 season was hampered by injury. Speaking to ucdsoccer.com manager Martin Russell said “Walshy is a UCD style midfielder who can pass the ball well and has great vision and awareness”
The 21 year old, who shot to prominence after finishing third in Sky One’s Football’s Next Star show, told the club’s website, “The chance to work with Martin and his staff was a big thing for me. Martin has a good understanding of young players and knows what is best us.”
The former Cherry Orchard star, Walsh, believes his new boss can get the best out of him “I feel he can guide me in the right direction but it is up to me to work hard and get in the team.”
The former Republic of Ireland Under-19 representative, Corcoran, joins the students from Bohemians where he scored five goals in the 2012 season.
“Last season wasn't one of my better ones,” he said, “I picked up a few little injuries and couldn't get a consistent run of games. So personally, I've been happy with the pre-season training so far and I hope to stay as fit as possible over the course of the season, play as many games as I can and play as well as I can.”
Russell believes UCD can benefit from Corcoran’s talents “Dinny has played for a number of different clubs, his goal-scoring ability and experience will be important for us.”
Corcoran may come up against his old Bohs teammates three times in the next three weeks with the two sides clashing in League, EA Sports Cup and Leinster Senior Cup games.
