Irish starlet signs with Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland Under-16 captain Danny Kane from Cherry Orchard.

Many clubs were interested in the centre-back although it was the Terriers who beat off the competition and he will join their academy during the summer.

Moving to the Yorkshire side will not be too daunting for the youngster as he has already had a trial spell there at the end of last year and trained with them again last week.

Ross Wilson, Head of Football Operations at Huddersfield Town, admitted his side had been tracking Kane for some time and are happy with his arrival.

“We have been tracking Danny extensively in recent months,” said Wilson. “His performances for Cherry Orchard and the Republic of Ireland suggest that he is a young player with considerable potential.

“Of course, he has a long way to go to reach his personal goals but he will be supported excellently in this development by all of our technical and support staff, led by Mark Lillis, and he can also rely on the backing of an extremely supportive family back in Ireland.”

Cherry Orchard are also very proud of their player in gaining the move as the Dublin club’s secretary Penny Delmar stated, “I am delighted for Danny to have signed with Huddersfield Town as they are a club with genuine ambition.

“He has developed very well at Cherry Orchard in recent times and has been a credit to himself too while representing the Republic of Ireland youth international side.”
