Setanta Cup - Getting to know Glentoran
A Brief History
The Glens were formed in 1882 and were one of the sides in the inaugural Irish League in 1890. They claimed their first title in 1894 and have since won the championship 23 times, making them the second most decorated side in Northern Ireland behind their “Big Two” rivals Linfield. Recent seasons have seen the club mired in financial troubles that have pushed them to the very brink of existence but, nonetheless, managed a top six finish last season.

The season so far
A storming start, that saw Glentoran beaten only once in their opening ten league fixtures, has since been overshadowed by off the field problems and means that the Glens will do well to maintain a top six position in the league this year.
Setanta Cup History
Glentoran have qualified for the Setanta Cup in every year since its inception with their best performance coming in 2008 when they finished runners up to Cork City, losing the final 2-1 in front of a sell-out crowd in Turner’s cross.
Manager
Eddie Patterson was appointed in February 2012 and the former Cliftonville manager is a well-respected coach who can get the best out of the youthful side Glentoran have been forced to assemble due to the current money troubles the club is experiencing.
One to Watch
Andrew Waterworth has come through the ranks at Glentoran and the big striker has caused defences problems all year scoring thirteen league goals in the process.
