Purcell deal not Dunne yet
Despite reports circulated earlier today, Cork City have not yet re-signed striker Tadhg Purcell, though manager Tommy Dunne confirmed that the club and player are in talks.
Purcell had signed a loan deal with City at the beginning of last season, impressing after a slow start before eventually departing for pastures new.
He turned down a permanent offer at the club when his loan ended in June, hoping to secure a move back to England.
A deal cross-channel never materialised and with just over a month to go before the new season kicks-off, Purcell and Dunne have had discussions about the Dubliner rejoining the club.
However, the City boss confirmed that earlier reports in local media of a deal being done were jumping the gun.
“Tadhg hasn’t signed. At the moment we’re in discussions. I’m not going to say whether he’s going to sign or not but at present he’s not a Cork City player,” Dunne confirmed to ExtraTime.ie tonight.
“We will hopefully have a squad of 20-22 players but I’m looking to get another striker in before the Setanta Cup game (against Cliftonville on Monday week). That’s the priority.”
