York City have completed the signing of striker David McDaid from Derry City.

McDaid, who scored 17 goals for the Candystripes last season, had been out of-contract at the Brandywell, and has joined the League Two club on an initial 18-month deal.

The 22 year-old was part of the Derry City side that claimed FAI Cup glory this season, and he follows former team-mates James McClean, Daniel Lafferty and Stephen McLaughlin across channel. Having been at the Brandywell since 2007, McDaid spent time on loan at Sligo Rovers and Finn Harps, and was one of Stephen Kenny’s first signings when the club reformed in 2010.

McDaid has represented both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland at youth level, although his most recent call-up was for the North’s Under 21 encounter with Macedonia last year.
