Rovers the only club for Robinson
Shamrock Rovers midfielder Shane Robinson has admitted that The Hoops were the only League of Ireland club that he would have returned to Ireland to play for.
Robinson, back in Ireland after spells in Australia and Finland, rejoined Rovers before Christmas for his third spell with the club, and is adamant that no other League of Ireland club could have secured his services.
“There was no other club in Ireland I would have been interested in. I could have stayed in Finland but I just wanted to come home to Rovers. I didn’t want to play for any other club apart from Rovers, I think anybody who knows me knows that.”
“To be honest when I left Rovers three years ago, I had a lot of options at other clubs but I wanted to try something different.
“I’ve worked with Trevor [Croly] and played with Trevor. I wanted to come home and one I got a phone call from him, I met him, and once I knew they were interested I wanted to sign.”
Robinson admits that he is at Rovers for one reason, and that is to win the league. The Waterford native believes that it will be tough season but with hard work success can be achieved.
“It’s going to be a lot of hard work. It’s not about picking the eleven best players in the league, that’s not the way football works, there’s a lot of hard work as well. I think we have solid professionals that we’ve brought in, the likes of Jason McGuinness and Mark Quigley, and people that are willing to work to make Rovers successful.
“Last season was so disappointing for so many reasons for Rovers, but this squad have the chance to put right a few wrongs from last year.”
