O'Sullivan sad to make his Athlone exit

Athlone Town announced today that their Chief Executive Officer John O’Sullivan’s contract had come to an end.  This announcement comes after an eventful close season which saw the appointment of Roddy Collins as their manager for their upcoming league campaign.

Speaking in the wake of the announcement, O’Sullivan admitted that he was sad to leave the club but he also highlighted what had been achieved under his tenure.

“I’m quite sad to leave Athlone and the fantastic people I’ve gotten to work with in my time here, especially as the club faces into such an exciting period. However, I’m very proud of the part I played in getting the club to the position where there’s such excitement and confidence surrounding it. I leave the club in the hands of a dedicated committee; we have added Ronan McCormack to the staff this week and have a marketing and administrative officer role advertised which will be filled very soon.”

O’Sullivan now finds himself looking to the future of Athlone without his direct involvement, but he looks back on his time at the club with fondness and is pleased with his role in shaping its future.

“We’ve built up a great support staff and structure, the new deal with Joma takes the club to a new level, but the partnership with AIT stands out, it helped us bring Roddy Collins to the club which is a fantastic appointment and though I don’t have the opportunity to work alongside him, I certainly plan to be back next year for the promotion party come the end of the season.”

The Kerryman leaves Athlone after previously registering on the League of Ireland’s radar at Cork City. He was a founder member of FORAS, the supporters group which saved the Leesiders from extinction in 2010 and he was also a former chairman of the club.
