'Keeper Barron re-signs for Students

UCD have taken a key step in their preparations for the new season by signing 24 year-old goalkeeper Ger Barron.

Barron started out at Geraldine’s in Limerick before spending six months at Glasgow Celtic in 2007. He joined UCD at the start of 2008 and made his league debut in the opening game of the 2009 league season. Since then he has made 67 league appearances for the club, although last season Ger’s contribution was limited to nine league outings due to a persistent toe injury.

Manager, Martin Russell, welcomed the signing saying, “I’m delighted Ger has re-signed for the new season and we look forward to him having a positive year on the back of lasts season’s injury plagued one. Ger is a great influence on the squad in terms of both training and games and we wish him a trouble free year.”

Barron, too, was keen to put the disappointment of 2012 behind him. “Last year was a difficult season for me personally with my foot injury that ruled me out for the bulk of the season, luckily now I've no injury worries and feel great so with a good pre season under the belt I’ll be fighting fit for the 2013 season.”

“When the fixtures are announced in early January as a player you are always looking for that first fixture and the fact that its Bohemians will make it even more exciting because of the strong UCD connection within their team, we cannot wait for it.”
