Athlone Town have begun 2013 in style, announcing that the club have agreed a multi-year contract with Spanish sportswear giants Joma for the provision of playing kit as well as leisurewear.

This deal is certainly a real coup, given the illustrious company the club are in – major European sides such as Valencia, Real Oviedo, Getafe, Fiorentina, Standard Liege and CFR Cluj all don Joma-made kits.

Joma was founded in 1965, originally intending to produce shoes, but after success decided to enter the general football market.

As well as clothing, the deal will also see Joma collaborate with the midlands club on the renovation and improvement of the Club Shop at Athlone Town Stadium, which will see an improved and consistent selection of quality merchandise available for purchase, according to the club.

Speaking to the club’s official website, AthloneTownFC.ie, CEO John O’Sullivan said:

“We’re delighted to have a company of Joma’s international standing working closely with Athlone.

“While Joma is taking first steps into the Irish market, Joma are one of the biggest sportswear manufacturers in the world, and we’ve no doubt that they will secure a large portion of the Irish market in coming years.

“We are particularly excited by the plans for the Club Shop, where Joma will provide support.

“It forms plans that will be executed over the coming year to make the Stadium a more hospitable and comfortable location for supporters and visitors alike.”

Supporters will get a first glimpse of the new gear on Saturday, as Athlone Town commence their pre-season training for the 2013 season at the Athlone Institute of Technology.
