Dundalk FC have given their supporters an early Christmas gift as they announce the double signing of Peter Cherrie and Stephen O’Donnell.

Cherrie, who re-signs, has made the number 1 spot his own at Oriel Park since arriving from Clyde in the summer of 2009 and will be signing on for his fourth full season at the club. Having made over 100 appearances in that time, the Scotsman has become a fans favourite following a series of impressive performances along with the fact he has firmly supported many community initiatives over the years with many viewing him as a ‘local’.

O’Donnell on the other hand joins as a free agent having parted ways with Shamrock Rovers shortly before the end of last season. The 26 year-old moves to county Louth with a league winners’ medal from 2011 along with a Setanta Sports Cup medal, when he was part of the team that beat Dundalk in the 2011 final. The former Bohemians star will look to show some of that 2011 form, when he famously scored the penalty kick against Partizan Belgrade that put the Hoops through to the group stage of the Europa League. The Galway native will be once again linking up with Stephen Kenny who managed him at Rovers for a spell during the past year.

The signings of Cherrie and O’Donnell bring Kenny’s squad to 12 and they join the re-signed Eoghan Osbourne, John Mountney and Stephen McDonnell along with the new recruits of John Dillon, Patrick Hoban, Keith Ward, Andy Boyle, Dane Massey,Tiarnan Mulvenna and Richie Towell. These are busy times for the Lilywhites and Kenny will be looking to add to the squad in the coming days. Stay tuned to extratime.ie for all the latest news from Oriel Park!
