Updates from The Showgrounds
We'll be providing updates from the Showgrounds tonight as Sligo Rovers take on Galway United in a vital game for Jeff Kenna's side.
- Good evening from The Showgrounds on a crisp, dry evening.
- Both teams are just out on the pitch...the largest travelling contingent of the season has made the trip up from Galway. Roughly about 200.
- Early shot for Galway as Jorgensen tests Brush after a swift break in the third minute. Rovers had a man over in the previous attack but couldn't make it pay.
- Smashing save from Brush from a cracking right foot half-volley by John Russell. Fingertip stuff.
- From Rovers first corner, Conor O'Grady climbed highest and headed Brian Cash's delivery narrowly over.
- 20 minutes gone and Rovers have just had a couple of serious headed opportunities. First Doherty and then McDaid headed off target when well positioned. Sligo are getting into dangerous positions way too easily.
- Jay O'Shea denied by the legs of Brush...O'Grady had headed over on the half hour but Galway have improved in the last few minutes.
- Sligo have the better of the last fifteen minutes of the half. Rogers saved from O'Grady, before Lester headed ovre from under his own crossbar. Raf Cretaro led a breakaway just before the break but was crowded out before he could find his strike partner Dave McDaid.
- 2104...Second half just underway.
- Two early shots from Russell saved....
- 52nd minute GOAL FOR SLIGO - A ball won in midfield by O'Grady makes its way to Cretaro, who runs at the heart of the defense and, with no challenge coming, whipped a right foot shot into the top corner...cracking goal but too casual from the visitors.
- Kenna has made two changes in an attempt to turn the tide which is quickly swampiong his side. Murphy goes off for Glynn, while Iarflith Davoren comes in for Ciaran Foley. IN the follwoing six or seven minutes it hasnt made much difference as Sligo look more likely to add to thier total.
- Cretaro blasts straight at Rogers from close range on 72 minutes before Russell, again, brings save from Brush.
- GOAL FOR GALWAY UNITED - 75 mins.....Penalty awardedd for a foul on Derek Glynn by Danny Ventre. Spot kick well placed in the corner by Jay O'Shea.
- Even enough since the equaliser....no chances for either side. Galway will take the point at this stage.
- Three minutes of injury time just started and Rogers has just made a great save from McTiernan, just on as a sub.
- Full time whistle blown by Derek Tomney and Galway depart with a point.
