Healy signs one-year deal with Cork City

Colin Healy has become the latest player to commit to Cork City for the 2013 season.

The former Republic of Ireland international re-joined City just prior to last season, from English side Ipswich Town.

Healy spent much of last season playing at right-back, but towards the tail end of 2012 dropped back into a deeper midfield role, sitting back, protecting the defence and delighting spectators with his quality range of passing.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.net, the Cork-born midfielder spoke of his delight at re-signing for his hometown club:

“I am looking forward to next season, and can’t wait to get started.

“Obviously Tommy has brought in a few new players, and I am hoping that we can progress from last year.”

Cork City manager Tommy Dunne also gave his opinion on the matter, saying just how vital Healy – who has 13 Republic of Ireland caps to his name – and his experience is to his side:

“It is good to have an experienced player like Colin among what is a relatively young group of players.

“Last year maybe didn’t go as well as he would have liked from a playing point of view due to a couple of injuries, but I am hopeful that Colin will be fit and well for next season and am confident he will bring a lot to the table.”
