Cork City have announced that Ian Turner and Danny Murphy have re-signed with the club for the 2013 season.

The pair are the latest in a string of players to commit themselves to Turner’s Cross for 2013, as the club attempt to secure the signatures of their current playing squad while also strengthening by adding to it.

Left-back Danny Murphy is a regular fixture at City, and is currently in his third spell with the club. The ‘Cockney Rebel’ as he is affectionately known by fans on Leeside, made 28 league appearances last season, and was pleased to sign a new deal.

“I am delighted to have signed back; everyone who knows me knows that I want to finish my career at the club.

“I am looking forward to next season; I think as a club and as a team we need to aim for a top three or four finish. I think that we need to set our sights higher as I think that is where this club belongs.”

Ian Turner is slightly younger than his club mate and has fewer grey hairs, but was just as enthusiastic about signing his own two-year deal.

The Cork man began the season as a conventional right-back, but has been deployed as a flying right winger toward the end of the season, scoring three goals in 24 appearances.

“I am really pleased to have signed a new contract with the club. I am happy I played so many games last year, and I hope to improve on that again next year.

“As a team, we did well to establish ourselves last year, but we need to push on for next year and hopefully look to finish in the top three or four. On a personal level, I am aiming to score and set up more goals next year than I did this season.”

Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said he was pleased that both players had signed back with the club. “Both Danny and Ian were regulars in the side last season, and I am pleased that they have signed new contracts.

“Danny has been a great servant to the club for many years, and he brings a lot of experience to the squad. Ian has done extremely well since he broke into the first team squad a couple of years ago, and he has progressed well in his time with the club.”
