Iarfhlaith Davoren has re-signed with Sligo Rovers for the 2013 season.

Davoren is the second player to sign with the champions for next year today, following the earlier announcement of Aaron Greene’s return to The Showgrounds.

He will enter his fourth season with Sligo after joining from Galway United during the 2010 pre-season. During his time with the club so far he has made 99 appearances and scored one goal, the equaliser in the 2011 FAI Ford Cup Final against Shelbourne which took the game to Extra-time and penalties.

The left-back has been plagued with injuries this year and as a result was eventually dropped from the match day squad with Ross Gaynor filling in at the back in his place.

Ian Baraclough spoke to sligorovers.com about re-signing Davoren and he feels he will be a big asset for his side next year following a tough 2012 campaign.

”I don’t think I saw the best of Iarfhlaith but I know from what I saw that he’s a very good footballer. He played a lot of last season with an injury until it became too much and he just couldn’t do it any more. He’s had the operation towards the end of the season and he’ll come back as a big asset to us.

“I’m delighted with our options in that area and in 2012 we didn’t have that. This year we can be very strong with a lot of competition and players that can I can deploy in a few positions. It’s exciting and a good challenge for the guys involved.”
