Cork City have announced that Kevin Murray has re-signed with the club for the 2013 season.

The 29 year-old defender began his career with the Leeside club, before joining fellow Cork side Cobh Ramblers and eventually Waterford United, who he re-joined City from in November of last year.

Murray missed the opening part of the Rebel Army’s league campaign through injury, before recovering to make 14 league appearances and impressing with his consistent defensive displays.

Speaking to the official Cork City website CorkCityFC.net, Murray outlined his hopes for the new season.

“I am thrilled to have signed a new contract with the club for next season. Obviously the first half of last year did not go as I would have wanted it to, but I thought that the second half of the season went well for me personally, and also for the club.

“I think we can be happy with where we finished in the table in 2012. I am really looking forward to next season and I hope that we can kick on in 2013 and target European qualification.”

Manager Tommy Dunne has also proclaimed his delight that the Corkman has put pen to paper, and how he hoped others would follow suit.

“I am delighted that Kevin has signed for the coming season; he is a good, experienced player and also a Cork native.

“I know he is looking forward to next season, and I hope that he will continue the good form he showed in the second half of last season.”

“We are continuing talks with members of last year’s squad, and I would expect progress in terms of more of them re-signing in the coming days.”
