Cork City have announced that goalkeeper Mark McNulty has re-signed for the club for the 2013 season.

Tommy Dunne has already set about strengthening his squad for the upcoming campaign, but will be equally concerned about retaining the services of his already established players.

McNulty – or ‘Nults’ as he is affectionately known by the Cork support – is one of the most long-serving players at the club, having joined in 2003, and was an integral member of the City squad that won promotion to the Premier Division in 2011.

The Ballincollig-born ‘keeper has also been a mainstay in the side throughout 2012, making 29 league appearances for the Rebel Army in their maiden season back in the top flight.

The 32 year old spoke to the club’s official website CorkCityFC.net about the deal shortly after putting pen to paper.

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract with the club. It looks like 2013 could be a good season for us and I am really excited to be a part of that. I think we had a decent season in 2012, but we were maybe a bit disappointed that we didn’t push up the table a bit more and challenge for a European spot.

“It wasn’t to be last season, but I really believe we have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for a top 3 or 4 place next season I believe there is a bright future for Cork City Football Club, and this is where I hope to spend the remainder of my playing days.”

Manager Dunne also gave his thoughts on the matter.

“I am delighted that Mark has signed back with us for another year. In my time with the club, Mark has proved his quality as a goalkeeper, and although he didn’t play a lot in his earlier years with the club, he is now showing that he is becoming a top goalkeeper.

“He is one of the experienced heads in the squad and he has a lot to offer the club.”
