Kenny close to taking Dundalk hotseat

Stephen Kenny looks set to be unveiled as the new manager of Dundalk in the next 72 hours after nearing a compensation agreement with former club Shamrock Rovers.

He was sacked by the Hoops in the summer after a poor run of results left them well off the pace set by Sligo Rovers and out of Europe.

Sources close to the Louth club have confirmed to ExtraTime.ie that, after holding lengthy talks, he has committed to taking over at Oriel Park once his situation with Rovers is finalised.

Kenny had watched Dundalk defeat Waterford United in their second leg play-off victory at the RSC, which secured their Premier Division status last month.

Darius Kierans was informed shortly after keeping the Lilywhites up that he would not be retained and immediately Kenny was installed as firm favourite for the job.

However, the appointment was delayed because of an ongoing dispute with Rovers over his severance package.

Kenny had also been linked with the vacant manager's job at Limerick, after the First Division champions sacked Pat Scully. The Shannonsiders, however, are no closer to making an appointment.
