Cork City sign Daryl Kavanagh

Cork City have announced the signing of forward Daryl Kavanagh from Shamrock Rovers on a two-year contract.

The Tipperary-born forward was one of the principle attacking threats for Shamrock Rovers last season, and is just what the Rebel Army need as they attempt to push on after consolidating their position in the Premier Division in their maiden year.

Commenting on the signing, Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said: “I am familiar with Daryl, as he has played against us a number of times over the past couple of years with Waterford, St. Pat’s and Shamrock Rovers.

“He is a very good player and caused us many problems when playing against us.

“He is coming to Cork City at a very good age. He is a very creative striker, with a good work rate. I am hoping that he will settle in Cork and become a fixture in our team over next number of years.”

The Leeside club at times looked short on attacking impetus last season, perhaps missing the hero of 2011 Graham Cummins more than was originally foreseen.

Manager Tommy Dunne and the club’s fans however will hope that the new recruit will go some way in resolving this problem.

Speaking to the official Cork City FC website CorkCityFC.net shortly after signing on the dotted line, the 26 year old said: “I am delighted to have signed for the club. Cork City has always been a massive club and I think the club is getting back to where it used to be.

“Having spoken to Tommy, I know that his aim is to get the club back to the top and that is my aim too.”
