Gerry Carr departs Sligo Rovers
Sligo Rovers have confirmed that Gerry Carr's time at the club has come to an end. Carr, who was working as assistant to Ian Baraclough, has ended his time at the club on a high as he was part of the backroom staff that brought the league title to the Showgrounds for the first time in 35 years.
Carr was a key part in the revival of Sligo Rovers. His tenure as assistant manager, first to Sean Connor and then subsequently with Paul Cook and Ian Baraclough coincided with the club clawing its way out of the First Division and becoming Premier League champions. During his time at the club, Rovers also won two FAI Cups, a League Cup and returned to European competition in 2009 for the first time in 13 years.
As a player, Carr cemented his place in Sligo Rovers folklore long before he ever stepped on the sidelines as a coach. He was a part of the 1994 Treble winning side and scored the winning goal in the 1994 FAI Cup Final against Derry City. He was also a part of the 2005 First Division side when he was a player / assistant manager.
Carr was granted a testimonial by the club last year and is currently undertaking his UEFA Pro License.
