Meyler and Brady move to Hull

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will be buoyed by the news that two of his prospective internationals, David Meyler and Robbie Brady, have secured loan moves to Championship club Hull City in a bid to play more first team football.

Meyler has joined the Tigers on loan from Sunderland, where he has failed to gain a place in Martin O’Neill’s starting team this season. Having made only five appearances for the Black Cats this year, he joins Hull until January 1.

Speaking on his move, Meyler admitted that the draw more game-time helped him make the move.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here. I spoke to Martin O’Neill and we both agreed that coming to Hull to get some games under my belt would be the best thing for me.

“Obviously I haven’t played a full 90 minutes for Sunderland in the league this season.

“I’ve only played 20 minutes here and there apart from once in the Capital One Cup tie against MK Dons in September.

“But, now I’m here, I’m just looking forward to playing football. I’m only 23-years-of-age. I want to continue improving and developing my game and that’s what I’m here to do.”

Dublin native Brady is on his second stint at the club, on loan from Manchester United, and came on a substitute in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Wolves.

The 20 year-old made his competitive debut for United earlier this season in the Capital One Cup, but has struggled to break into Alex Ferguson’s side. Having featured for Hull 39 times last season, manager Steve Bruce was delighted to bring the youngster back for a second spell.

“We haven’t really got any natural wide players,” said Bruce.

“The quality of Robbie is that he can play on the left or on the right, and even last night he came on as an emergency left back or left wing-back.

“I think he’ll be better here this time around. He had a good start here last time and then, like most young players, he probably needed a rest and taking out of it, especially for a 19/20-year-old playing a full season.”

Both players made their competitive International debuts earlier this year, and have both been included by Trapattoni in his squad to face Greece next week.
