Five Star Peas delight Gleeson

Eileen Gleeson was left beaming after her five star Pea’s rocked Raheny United in Santry Stadium on Saturday night.

Santry has proved a happy hunting ground for the Pea’s as Gleeson’s team have taken six points from a possible nine league points from the Northside venue as well as dumping the Northsiders out of last season’s league cup.

“It was a great performance by the girls, some good goals and it was a convincing victory. Normally the games between ourselves and Raheny are a lot tighter but I thought we were right on top from the start.”

Three second half goals two from league leading scorer Sara Lawlor and one from Stephanie Roche sealed the points as the Pea’s attack ripped the script asunder on a cold night in Santry.

Gleeson praised her team for their attitude in coming back from the WFAI cup final defeat some three weeks ago and securing a very important three points.

“Our focus is the league this season, so that gave us great impetus for the next game”

Peamount host a much improved Shamrock Rovers on Sunday. Rovers secured their first three points of the campaign after a 2-1 victory over new comers DLR Waves last week.

“Rovers are always strong and gritty, we don’t expect any easy game but we always want the result.”

The Peas have found the net 16 times this season an average of four goals a game. Sara Lawlor has hit the back of the net on seven occasions while her strike partner Stephanie Roche has chipped in with six.

Lawlor leads the goal scoring charts this season, while Roche find herself in second place. Raheny’s Rebecca Creagh is next with five. Wexford’s Rianna Jarrett has four as does Shamrock Rovers centre forward Orlaigh Nolan.

Nolan’s ability to conjure up a goal from nothing will be Gleeson’s biggest worry on Sunday afternoon. Kick is 2pm in Greenogue.
