Dunne thanks Rebel Army

After seeing his side beat Dundalk 3-0 at Turner’s Cross on Friday night, Cork City manager Tommy Dunne made a special effort to praise the club’s fans.

The Rebel Army saw an average attendance of 2,763 patrons over the year, and their consistent vocal support really roared on the team, whilst making Turner’s Cross one of the real cauldrons in the Airtricity League.

Speaking immediately after the game on Friday night, Dunne made note to mention the fans.

“Yeah it’s fantastic.

“We said it before the game that they’ve been very good to us, and they’ve actually probably been a bit nice to us this year because, at times they could have been a bit tetchy and a bit disappointed, but they’ve supported the team from start to finish.”

“They’ve turned out in numbers, they’ve been vocal, and they’ve been absolutely fantastic for the team. Tonight and over the course of the season we’ve given them their money’s worth, whether it’s been from a winning side or a losing side we’ve given them their money’s worth.

“But for us and for them we need to be better next year.”

Friday night’s victory signalled the end of a debut season back in the top flight for Cork City, who will be aiming to beat St. Patrick’s Athletic next weekend in Richmond Park to try and ensure qualification for next season’s Setanta Cup.

“We’ve kept the season alive in a sense, right ‘till the last game, albeit it’s the Setanta Cup. We would have liked for it to be silverware in some shape of form.

“If we could pick up fifth placed finish for our first time back in the Premier it wouldn’t be that bad.”

City don’t actually have to win against St. Pat’s, as if Derry City win the cup and finish fifth, sixth place will do to qualify for the Setanta Cup.

Dunne however is still determined to finish off his maiden Premier Division campaign with a win against one of the best sides in the country.

“We need to just try and get a win next week. Simple.”
