Peamount United and Raheny United are readying themselves for Sunday’s intriguing FAI Umbro Women’s Senior Cup Final clash between the two Dublin sides at Dalymount Park (3.00pm).

The clubs have emerged as real rivals in recent years and are level on top of the Bus Eireann Women’s National League this season.

Peamount captain Louise Quinn expects the rivalry to continue with another tense clash this Sunday as both sides are in such good form.

“We had a good win on Sunday against DLR Waves so we’re going into the final in good form. We probably should have scored a few more goals but in terms of creativity we were very creative,” said Quinn.

“We produced a lot of opportunities so from that perspective we’re going into the game with confidence.

“We know Raheny are a fantastic team but we are the league champions and we want to prove ourselves. We know they’re a very good side and it’s going to be very competitive.”

Raheny United’s Rebecca Creagh believes that the two rivals have pushed the other on to greater heights and that should make for a great clash this Sunday.

“I always compare it to Celtic-Rangers because each team wouldn’t really be the same without the other. We’re vying with each other to come out on top in that rivalry. It’s always the same every year and I hope it continues to be that way. It puts an exciting edge on the game and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Creagh.

“We spur each other on. We want to win this to make up for not winning the league last year. It’s always nice to beat your rivals.

“When you are on top you get the coverage but we know ourselves in the club and in the team that we are that good but it’s a mental thing. We have to focus on what we want and if we have the right approach we can get it on Sunday.

“Once we take our chances that will be the key. If we get them and we finish them then that’ll be the key.

“We’ve done really well this season. I feel we’re mentally stronger this year and I that can gives us the edge this season.”

Quinn agrees with Creagh that the rivalry should make for a top class encounter at the weekend.

“It’s kind of like a Celtic-Rangers thing. North Dublin v South Dublin. We always know when the Raheny games are coming up and we thing about those games a lot. We take each game as it comes but Raheny would be on our minds – but only when they are the next game coming up,” Quinn added.

“We want to be greedy. We want to win every trophy that we can possibly get. The Bus Éireaan league title, the Women’s FAI Cup, the League Cup. We want to win them all so we’ll be going into the final with all guns blazing looking to lift the trophy.”
