Dundalk FC have announced the signing of Carrickmacross native Barry Conlon until the end of the season. The 33 year-old striker signs on a free transfer having been unattached since his spell with Olympic de Charleroi-Marchienne in Belgium last year coming to an end.

Conlon, who was a youth at Oriel Park in his early career, was due to sign for the club earlier in the season but financial cuts meant that the deal could not take place. Now, however, with Dundalk's future looking brighter, the club are in a position to take Conlon on board in the hope he can help them stave off relegation.

Dundalk find themselves at the bottom of the table and in dire need of goals and Conlon goes straight into the squad to face UCD in their crunch encounter on Friday evening. The Monaghan native has become interim manager Darius Kierans' eight signing of the summer as he bids to guide the club to safety.
