The Republic of Ireland remain in 26th in the FIFA World Rankings after the latest table was released on Wednesday. Giovanni Trapattoni's team lie between Australia, who are in 25th place, and South Korea, who are in 27th place.

The Boys in Green occupied 18th position in the rankings in June, before comprehensive defeats against Croatia, Italy and Spain in the Euro 2012 competition.

Spain, Germany and England retain first, second and third spots in the rankings respectively, while Portugal move up to fourth at the expense of South America's Uruguay, who drop to fifth.

September's rankings see no change in the remainder of the top ten teams as Italy, Argentina, Holland, Croatia and Denmark complete the chart in that order.

Slovenia and Algeria were the biggest movers near the top of the ladder, the former moving up nine places to 24th while the latter jumps six places to 28th.
