FAI Ford Cup Quarter-Final draw is made
The draw for the FAI Ford Cup quarter-finals took place live on RTE’s MNS On Monday evening with some interesting tie thrown up. Shamrock Rovers’ trip to Tolka Park to face Shelbourne is the pick of the last eight ties with two other all Premier Division games in store.
Shamrock Rovers have won the FAI Cup a record 24 times but will face a tough test in order to progress to the next stages of this year’s competition. The Hoops haven’t lifted the trophy since 1987 and the Tallaght club will be desperate to add to their bulging trophy cabinet.
Liam Buckley’s St.Patrick’s Athletic received a bye into the last eight thanks to the withdrawal of Monaghan United and they have been paired with Drogheda United at Richmond Park while Bohemians against Dundalk at Dalymount Park is the other all top flight clash.
Waterford United’s last 16 tie with Mervue United fell foul of the weather on Friday and then again on Monday so both First Division sides entered the draw and the winner of that game will face Derry City at the Brandywell for a place in the last four.
The ties will take place on the weekend of 16th September.
