Derry City v Cork City

Both sides come into this tie after two wins last week. Cork won at home to Dungannon and Ucd while Derry qualified for the cross-border competition semi-finals and also got their hands on the Eircom League Cup again with an impressive 6-1 win over first division side Wexford youths. The hero for Derry was Sammy Morrow, the striker scored a hat-trick in the game and was also the player who earned the Candystripes a replay with a late penalty down in Cork a fortnight back.

Derry boss, Stephen Kenny is positive going into the game.” The players have done tremendously well with good wins over St Pats in the Setanta Cup and in the League Cup final against Wexford.”

The home side are expected to be without Niall McGinn and Stephen Gray after both picked up injuries in League Cup Final and Kenny admits his side are able to qualify for another semi-final after a tiring week. “The team is playing well now, there have been a lot of games with more to come and it is important that the lads can eliminate all thoughts of fatigue from their minds. Hopefully we will be able to get a third big win in a week.”

Cork will be without the services of Cillian Lordan again because of injury but Joe Gamble and Pat Sullivan are available for selection after both served a one-match ban in the UCD league game on Friday night. Seán Kelly is doubtful with a hamstring injury while Gareth Cambridge is ruled out as he is cup-tied. The reigning champions have travelled up to Derry on Monday afternoon and this is their main chance of silverware after a more than difficult season on and off the pitch.

The winners will travel to Terryland Park to face Galway United in the semi final on Sunday 26th of October.

ExtraTime.ie Prediction: There has been nothing to choose between these two sides in their four previous meetings. Three of these were 1-1 draws at Turners Cross but Cork came out on top away from home with a 3-2 win. It will definitely be close again at the Brandywell and the home side, fresh from their League Cup win on Saturday could shade it by a goal. 1-0.
