Live Updates: Airtricity League Week 23

Match Updates start at 7pm this evening

The final round of Airtricity League fixtures begin this evening and with just ten games remaining this campaign, every match is crucial at both the top and bottom of the two divisions.

It’s second against third as Drogheda United welcome Shamrock Rovers to Hunky Dorys Park. Mick Cooke’s side know victory will keep the pressure on leaders Sligo while three points for the defending champions would move them within touching distance of the Drogs.

League leaders Sligo will be looking to capitalize on Shelbourne’s poor recent form when they make the trip to Tolka Park. Alan Mathews’ side have lost two of their last three games including last week’s defeat to bottom club UCD but Shels are in with a chance of claiming the much sought after Europa League spot.

At Richmond Park, St. Patrick’s Athletic face Bray Wanderers as Liam Buckley’s side look to keep their slim title chances alive. Pats are currently eight points off the summit but have games in hand over the top three so a string of victories could propel the Saints towards the top. However they will face a stiff test on Friday as Bray have plenty to play for themselves as they are three points adrift of 10th placed Dundalk.

Derry will be looking to put a string of poor results behind them when they welcome Aaron Callaghan’s Bohemians to the Brandywell. The Candystripes haven’t won in three games and have slipped down the standings and currently lie seventh while Bohs have exceeded all expectations and within touching distance of the top four.

Finally, UCD will be hoping to record back to back league victories for the first time this season and leapfrog Dundalk at the bottom of the table when they face Cork City in Belfield. With the County Louth side not in action this week, Martin Russell’s side can lift themselves off the foot of the table while Cork will want to bounce back from their first defeat in 115 days when they lost to Pats last time out.

Meanwhile, There are just two games in the First Division on Friday as basement club SD Galway host Athlone Town and second placed Waterford face Wexford Youths at the RSC.

With Limerick not in action till Saturday, United can put the pressure on Pat Scully’s side with a win this evening. Three points for Waterford would move them to within a victory of Limerick at the top.
