With Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and St. Patrick's Athletic all not playing on Friday night, Drogheda United were afforded an opportunity to close the gap on leaders Sligo whilst adding some distance between themselves and the following group.  And the duly obliged.

The Claret and Blue edged past Dublin rivals Bohemians at Hunky Dorys Park thanks to a Declan O'Brien penalty after 35 minutes.  The Dublin side were left feeling frustrated after seeing several of their efforts cleared off the line and a late penalty appeal waved away.

In Tolka Park, UCD picked up three vital points and earned their first away victory of the season as they defeated Shelbourne 2-1 in a closely fought encounter whilst Bray Wanderers got out of jail when second half sub Dave Webster fired home on 94 minutes to deny the Lilywhites the three points they so badly need.

In the First Division, leaders Limerick came from one goal behind against Wexford Youths to register a 3-1 win. Goals from Rory Gaffney, Jeffrey Judge and Dominic Foley enough to extend their lead in the division. Longford Town will play on Saturday night against Finn Harps.

Mike Kerley came back to haunt his former club as his Athlone Town side held promotion chasing Waterford United to a 0-0 draw in the RSC. The game was a drab affair that never got going, but both sides create chances to win the game on the night.

At Eamonn Deacy, Park SD Galway registered only their second win of the season as they recorded back to back Galway city derby wins over neighbours Mervue United with a goal in either half.
