Longford Town vs Waterford United

Longford Town will be looking to go unbeaten in the league in September as they welcome second placed Waterford United to Flancare Park (kick-off 19:30).

The Town will be confident going into this clash having turned some awful August form into a team unbeaten in the league in three, most notably a draw away to Sporting Fingal in Morton Stadium. Longford have no suspensions going into the game.

Waterford United managed to come away from Tolka Park on Monday with a point, so Gareth Cronin will be looking for all three in Longford to ensure they keep the pressure on Dundalk.

Captain David Breen is ruled out of the equation, suspended for the game after reaching four penalty points, but midfielder Paul McCarthy is in line to make his long-awaited return after a horrendous ankle injury at the end of May which had threatened to finish his season.

Flancare Park has long been something of a bogey ground for the Blues, and games there tend to be tight, tense encounters, but United bucked the trend somewhat last time out, winning 2-0 in mid-May. They went on to overturn the Town at the RSC with a 4-0 demolition.

The game kicks off at 19:30.

Extratime.ie Prediction: Longford have improved since Vinny Perth has come in, but Waterford have promotion in their grasp and I think that will prove enough to earn them a win in Longford. 2-1 is our predicted scoreline in Flancare.
