Cathal McDaid signs for Finn Harps
REPUBLIC of Ireland U18 international Cathal McDaid has signed his first professional contract with Finn Harps in a deal that will tie the talented winger to the Finn Park club until the end of 2014 season.
Harps manager Peter Hutton believes that the highly rated youngster has what it takes to make it in the professional game.
Speaking to the club’s website he commented, “Cathal has huge potential, a good attitude and a real willingness to learn. These are the attributes that are needed to make a successful career in senior football.”
The player, who placed himself firmly in Paul Doolin’s plans for inclusion in the Ireland Under-19 squad which competes in the 2012/2013 UEFA qualifiers this October when he scored in against Wales in a recent U18 international, was thrilled to put pen to paper.
“I was absolutely delighted when the manager offered me the contract because I am really enjoying my time at Finn Harps. I am ambitious and want to break into the first team squad but I know it’s not going to be easy. I know the club has big plans for the future so I am going to keep my head down, work hard and hopefully be a part of it.”
After losing Shane McGinty and Hugh McFadden to Sligo Rovers scholarship scheme the manager has said that the recent link up with Letterkenny Institute of Technology will lead to more young players staying with Harps and following in McDaid’s footsteps.
“I believe Cathal’s the first with more to follow. Everyone at the club is working very hard behind the scenes and the recent announcement of our scholarship programme with LYIT shows Finn Harps is committed to recruiting and developing young players.”
