McCallion parts company with Derry City

Derry City legend Eddie McCallion has parted company with hometown team Derry City and signed a two year deal with Irish League side Glenavon. He will join up with manager Gary Hamilton whom he spent a year alongside as a player at Blackburn Rovers.

"I am sad to be leaving but am thankful to Glenavon for offering me a two year deal." he said.

McCallion stated also that the attraction of first team football at this stage of his career was what drove him to make the decision to part with his beloved Candystripes.

He also commented, "I have loved my time at this club. It’s not often you hear of players staying with the one club for 15 or so years like I have done. I have had some great experiences with this club and I also think that being from here makes it easier too."  

McCallion made over 500 appearances for the Brandywell side, most famously captaining the team against Paris St Germain in the Europa League run in 2006.
