Dundalk FC confirmed that defender Luke Danville has left the club by mutual consent. The English-born player joined the Lilywhites in February but his short spell with the club has been blighted by injury and at the time of his departure he is unavailable to play due to a medial ligament injury.

Danville is the fifth player to be released by the cash-strapped Louth club this transfer window as he follows Ger Hanley, Dan Cunningham, Gareth Coughlan and Shane O'Neill out the Oriel Park exit door.

On the other hand, the club have also announced the signing of defender Robbie Gaul who signs on amateur terms until the end of the season. Gaul who has most recently been a member of the Bohemians squad, made his debut for Drogheda United last season and even made appearances against his new club in that spell. The 20 year-old can play either in defence or on the right side of midfield will add some versatility to the Dundalk panel.

The youngster is in line to feature against his former club on Friday night. Gaul becomes the Lilywhites fourth signing of the summer as he joins Paul Whelan, William Woods and Philip McCabe at the border venue.

Meanwhile, a group of Dundalk supporters have offered to pay the wages of two first-team players' until the end of the season. As the Lilywhites are in a perilous financial position, the club are "delighted to receive this generous offer". The group will pay the unnamed players' wages for the remaining 14 weeks of the 2012 season and the club hope that this contribution will allow interim manager Darius Kierans strengthen the squad as they aim to battle relegation and keep the club in the top flight.
