Hibs Supporters Chairman: "Fenlon's the man for us"
Hibernian’s Four in Hand supporters club chairman Lee McLennan believes that Irish boss Pat Fenlon is the only man to bring his beloved Hibernian FC forward.
Fenlon, who has been in the hot seat at Easter Road since November 2011, managed to save the Edinburgh club from relegation, and make it to the Scottish Cup final, unfortunately beaten by bitter rivals Hearts.
Back in December, McLennan told extratime.ie that Fenlon was the right appointment in many people’s eyes, citing his “no nonsense approach”.
On looking back over the season, McLennan is satisfied with how it panned out. “Since Pat has taken over at ER has been a breath of fresh air, in January he brought in players that he thought could keep us in the division in which he done, albeit a very poor Dunfermline team, we did have a good Scottish Cup run which was a bonus for Pat. Hibernian supporters seen the passion and fight and hurt in him after the cup final, there is only one man that is going to take Hibernian forward and that's Pat.”
The lifelong Hibee rushed to the defence of his manager following the Scottish Cup Final mauling at the hands of Hearts. Lee said “When we beat Aberdeen the feeling and the passion on Pat's face was clear to see & we were all expecting Celtic but then the surprise came when Hearts won and Pat knew beforehand he knew what this meant to the fans. Pat never let us down that day, it was the players that put on the Green & White shirt,” before adding “The players that day don't understand the pain and torment we will have to go through for years after a 5-1 defeat to your rivals in a cup final.”
With Rangers now gone from the SPL, Hibs have a real chance of upsetting the apple cart, and McLennan is more than aware of this. A rather bullish optimism, and definite trust in the former Bohemians and Shelbourne manager was evident with the supporters chairman,
“This is a bigger season more than ever for a lot of reasons, Rangers losing their SPL status can only be a good thing for us, and hopefully we can show the rest of the SPL that we are going to mean business this year. We need to improve on our record with Hearts. We have a chance to make a good inroad in the SPL this season and if you ask any true Hibernian FC supporters out of 100 at least 90 think Pat is the right man to lead us forward. He can and he will make Hibernian FC a success and force to be known again in Scottish football.”
Fenlon has added to his squad in the off season, with Tim Clancy signing, as well as goalkeeper Ben Williams, and last season’s loaned captain James McPake from Coventry.
