Cork City have confirmed the signing of 30-year-old Scottish striker Keigan Parker until the end of the season.

Parker had been on trial with the Leesiders a fortnight ago but is understood to have taken some time out before deciding on his future.

Capped at U21 level for Scotland, he joins City following a spell at Ayr United, where he won the Scottish goal of the season for a spectacular overhead kick.

Parker also scored for Blackpool at Wembley in the 2007 League One play-off final and believes a top four finish is not out of his new club’s reach.

“I’m very pleased to have signed for the club. I have always wanted to play in another country, so I am looking forward to it. I like to play off the shoulder of the last defender and get in behind the defence, to create chances for myself and for others.

“I have signed until the end of the season, and I have heard a lot of good things about the club, it’s fanbase and also the training here. I’ve had a look at the league table and it looks quite close, so I don’t think there is anything to stop us climbing up the table and hopefully challenging for the top three or four.”

Manager Tommy Dunne, who stated that finding a new striker following the departure of Tadhg Purcell last month was his main priority in this transfer window, says he is hopeful that Parker can play some part against league leaders Sligo Rovers on Sunday night:  “We will have a look at him in training and hopefully he will be available for the game against Sligo on Sunday. When he came in on trial he did well, he looks like he is capable of scoring goals. He is probably a different type of striker to what we have had previously, and he also has a lot of experience and I think he has a lot to offer to us.”
