North delighted with new Rovers contract
Danny North put to bed any speculation about his immediate future by signing with Sligo Rovers until the end of the 2013 season.
North's scoring form has been exceptional so far this season, and his 15 league goals have propelled Sligo Rovers into dreamland, six points clear of their closest challengers Drogheda United. "I couldn't have dreamed it that it's gone so well to be honest" said the inform striker.
"I'm delighted to get my future sorted for another year" said North to the assembled press at the Showgrounds this afternoon. "It's nice to know what you're going to be doing next year but it's nothing major. The deal was right so I signed it"
North was then asked if he felt that Sligo Rovers was the right club for him.
"I wouldn't have signed in the first place if I didn't think it would be right for me. I signed under Cookie and then the new gaffer came in and things have just got better and better. Hopefully it can keep going like that and improve next year"
It's often spoken that players don't want to move away from Dublin to the relatively small town of Sligo. We asked Danny did he ever have any doubts or feel apprehensive about moving to Sligo.
"Not really. I moved up here for football reasons. Obviously Sligo are a better team than St. Pats. Last year they played a better brand of football and it was was something I was looking forward to, full time football as well."
North looks on course to break the scoring records at the Showgrounds, with Eoin Doyle's newly established league goalscoring record of 20 league goals on course to be beaten by the striker from Grimsby.
