Dundalk and McCaffrey part company

Dundalk FC released a statement announcing that manager Sean McCaffrey had left the club by mutual consent. McCaffrey leaves the Lilywhites second from bottom of the Premier League in what has been a disappointing campaign.

The former Ireland underage manager took over the County Louth club just before Christmas 2011 and had hoped to guide his young side to a good season. However, the limited budget and the current financial state of the club at this time made his task a difficult one and both himself and the club have decided to part ways. McCaffrey said his plans and initiatives could not be reached and thanked all at the club.

Dundalk FC went on to thank Sean for his effort and wished him well in the future. Darius Kierans will continue preparation for tomorrow night's fixture against Shamrock Rovers and indeed take over temporary charge of the first-team.

The statement in full reads:

Sean McCaffrey and Dundalk FC have today come to a mutual understanding to end Sean’s tenure as First Team Manager at the club. Both parties believe this is in the best interests of all concerned.

Sean has stated today that ‘many of my plans and initiatives unfortunately could not be realised at the club in an appropriate timeframe and due to this I feel is it best we go our separate ways’ Sean added ‘I would like to thank all the players, coaching and administration staff for their efforts and cooperation during my time at the club and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.’

Dundalk FC would like to thank Sean for his dedication, commitment and professional work ethic towards the role of First Team Manager at Dundalk FC. The unprecedented financial times have added significant pressures on the club and have curtailed many of the ambitious plans Sean had for the Dundalk FC. We would like to thank Sean and wish him well in his future career.

Dundalk will continue to prepare for Friday night’s clash with Shamrock Rovers and Assistant Manager, Darius Kearns will take temporary charge of the team.
