Hutton aiming to strengthen Harps squad

Finn Harps manager Peter Hutton is looking forward to bolstering his team after his side went down by three goals to one against Longford Town on Friday night.
Harps played well in patches against the league leaders but a lack of experience was perhaps the deciding factor in the Ballybofey contest. Harps travel to second placed Limerick this coming weekend and can at least look forward to the return of captain Kevin McHugh, who has missed four games through suspension.
Then, come July, Hutton will be able to introduce former Harps players Michael Funston and Mark Scoltock to his side.
“We didn’t play anywhere near what we can but at the same time we conceded sloppy goals,” Hutton said of the 3-1 loss to the midlanders.
They were too easy. We can only wish we got goals so easy. If you don’t take your chances then you get punished. It’s a cliché but if you don’t take your chances then you get punished. It’s pressing the self-destruct button. It wasn’t that good a performance. We played well in patches but it was more hope and desperation.
“We’re decimated by injuries and suspensions but we’ll be a different animal in July. We have Kevin McHugh back come Friday and the two lads (Funston and Scoltock) can come in then. We’ve more in the pipeline but whether they come through the pipe is another matter altogether.
“We have to wait and see. We’re talking to some players but we’re hopeful. We’d like to get them. Whether they want to come to Harps then we’ll wait and see. Football is a results business. We’ve played alright of late but we’re a young team that is learning but we can’t keep making the same mistakes. I can accept inexperience but if they keep making the same mistakes then we’ll have to see if they’re right for this football club.”
