Devlin - We must be more clinical

A disgruntled Pat Devlin spoke to Extratime after witnessing his side’s 3-1 defeat to Drogheda United on Friday night. The Bray manager saw his side dominate for periods but failed to round off some good moves and sweeping play.

“It’s a game we should be going away with three points, it’s unbelievable that we haven’t got anything out of it, very bad defending, very bad finishing. They were more clinical and they got all three points at the end. “

Although Devlin admits his side were second best he also felt that they were hindered by some decisions made by the man in the middle.  

“Some of the refereeing decisions and the gamesmanship was unbelievable, I mean the same fouls were played on us and we never got anything out of it. I couldn’t believe it, it was terrible. But you can’t blame the ref I can only blame my players.”

Bray went into the break on the back of a 3-1 win at home to UCD and seemed to be finally hitting some form, but did the three week hiatus come at a bad time for the Seagulls?

“Not really, no no, tonight we played well but we didn’t take our chances and we made very silly mistakes and we got punished for it. It’s not about entertainment, it’s about results and these lads have to be a bit more clinical and if they are we’ll be fine.”

Goalscorer Sean Houston was a real threat for Bray and Devlin praised the poacher but emphasised that their problems aren’t up top.

“Yeah he did great, but as I said our problems are at the back, The goalkeeper and back four, just didn’t defend properly. Three set pieces and three headers, scandalous defending.”

Devlin didn’t shy away from the fact that Bray have no money and will not be able to add to their squad despite the current deficits.

“We don’t have any money, at least we are honest about it. We try and do our best with what we have but at the end of the day we can’t afford to go out and buy any players, we could do with them but the lads are good and if they can just be a bit more clinical then we’ll be fine. “
