Tommy Dunne’s Cork City welcome Derry to Turner’s Cross on Friday evening, where a win for the visitors will keep them well within the title race.
The Munster men are sitting in ninth place in the Airtricity Premier Division table and have only won two home games so far this season.
Tommy Dunne will be without several players through injury tomorrow. Stephen Mulcahy, Kevin Murray and Neal Horgan are expected to miss the game despite their return to training recently. Shane O’Connor will be missing due to an arm injury and Dan Murray is still out with a groin injury.
John Dunleavy misses the game through suspension but Danny Murphy will return from suspension. It has been confirmed that striker Jamie Murphy has left Cork City.
The manager feels that Derry will be a tough side to overcome but a good start from his side will give them a good chance of getting something from the candystripes: “Derry are a strong outfit, they were a top three side last season and have every chance of challenging for a similar position this season again.”
“If we can start the game well, I think we will give ourselves an opportunity to win the game and that is what we will be setting out to do.”
DERRY CITY
Derry have picked up only two away wins this season but have drawn two games away from home. They are sitting in fifth in the premier division table, just two points behind Drogheda in fourth and ten behind leaders Sligo Rovers.
Declan Devine has a number of injury concerns heading into this fixture. Kevin Deery is still missing through injury and Mark Farren is expected to be missing also.
Barry Molloy and Shane McEleney are missing through suspension. Stewart Greacen could return after playing in a training match last weekend.
