McGlone: Mons can stay in business

Unlike those that have gone before them in the League of Ireland’s dark history of withdrawals, Monaghan United will not cease to exist according to chairman Jim McGlone.

“We hope we can stay in business,” McGlone says. “We obviously have a very strong juvenile section and a good ladies team who we hope to bring forward.

“We have nine teams and we certainly hope to keep going as a club, keep our fundraising going and honour any debt that arises from this.

“Honouring our debts has always been something we strive to do. It’s not a question of going into liquidation. We’ll take this hit and pay our debts because doing that has always been something we’ve wanted to stand over.”

McGlone also confirmed that there would not be any job losses aside from the playing staff and manager Roddy Collins.

“Our club, basically apart from a couple of people who are on FÁS, is run by volunteers, so there won’t be any further losses. I expect the FÁS workers to continue as normal, but the players and Roddy will be the only ones  we'll be letting go."
