Referees announced for opening Euro 2012 games

The referee for the opening fixture of the European Championships 2012 has been selected and the responsibility falls to Spanish official Carlos Velasco Carballo. He will take charge of the hosts Poland game against Greece on Friday in Warsaw.

 

Howard Webb, the well known English referee, who took charge of the 2010 World Cup Final will officiate the Russia v Czech Republic match in Wroclaw later that evening. Webb issued an impressive 13 yellow cards and one red in the 2010 final.

 

On Saturday, Damir Skomina of Slovenia will referee the first match between the Netherlands and Denmark in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Stephane Lannoy of France will referee Germany vs. Portugal on Saturday in Lviv.
