Ukraine lose out to Turkey in friendly
An experimental Ukraine side were comprehensively beaten 2-0 by Turkey in the OSV Stadion in Germany on Tuesday evening. Goals either side of halftime from Caner Erkin and Mustafa Pektemek ensured a relatively easy win for the experienced Turkish outfit.
Oleg Blokhin opted to start with captain and star striker Andriy Shevchenko on the substitutes bench as he gave some fringe players one final chance to impress in this final warm up match before returning to Kiev.
With young Euro 2012 hopefuls failing to impress, Shevchenko was introduced at the interval to add some experience to a side also missing the leadership qualities of Anatoliy Tymoschuk of Bayern Munich.
One positive Blokhin can take from the friendly is that his squad sustained no fresh injuries and can now plan for next Monday’s Group D opener against Sweden in Kiev.
