EURO 2012: Klose to full fitness
Miroslav Klose has declared himself fully fit and ready to lead the German squad to victory in a major tournament for the first time in 12 years. Klose, who is the oldest player in the youngest squad in the tournament at only 33, missed five weeks at the end of the season for his club Lazio with a thigh injury.
If Klose plays in this tournament, it will be playing in his sixth consecutive major tournament. He started the two most recent warm up games against Switzerland and Israel and today told a press conference in Gdansk that he is right on schedule and pain free.
Klose is the second highest goalscorer for the German national team and needs just five goals to overtake Gerd Mueller's German record of 68 international goals.
Germany’s first game is on Saturday when they take on the Portuguese in Lviv and Klose has alluded to Portugal's perceived over reliance on Christiano Ronaldo, during a recent press conference.
"Portugal are not just Cristiano Ronaldo. It is important to play as a team both for them and for us. If they want to beat us, they will have to beat us as a team."
Klose will hope to kick of the tournament and celebrate his 34th birthday in style by defeating the Portuguese before going on to play the Netherlands four days later and Denmark on June 17.
