Voronin bemoans lack of media coverage
Ukrainian striker Andriy Voronin has hit out at the national media for a lack of coverage as his side prepare for their final warm-up game against Turkey at the ESV Stadion in Germany on Tuesday evening (Kick off 18.00 GMT).
The former Liverpool player speaking to Uefa.com said, "Look at Russia, every time any of their players raises his hand there is an update in the media. By contrast, there are no Ukrainian media here in the camp. Maybe that’s down to a limited budget, but there is a feeling we are forgotten out here."
With a lot of negative publicity in recent weeks due to concerns over violence and racial abuse inside grounds across both host nations Poland and Ukraine, Voronin has a point. The lack of a home based reporter at the hosts training camp in Austria is bemusing, even a little worrying.
The Ukrainian squad will return to Kyiv immediately after Tuesday’s friendly with Turkey as their focus will turn to a Group A opener against Sweden next Monday in the Olympic Stadium in Kiev.
