And so, with every major tournament Ireland features in comes the certainty that a number of tribute songs will follow and EURO 2012 is no different. At Extratime.ie we decided to mark this occasion with our very own Euro 2012 Song Contest.

After an initial submissions round, a shortlist was drawn up and over the last week, we have received votes to find your favourite Irish song for the Championships.

The results are in and unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, we have an Irish winner. The winner of the Extratime.ie Euro 2012 Song Contest is "Joxer Goes to Posnan" by Cormac and Gav, who hail from Dundalk.

The song is a tribute to Christy Moore's classic about the 1988 European Championships and tells the story of a group on fans that travel to Poland for Ireland's games against Croatia, Spain and Italy at Euro 2012 - with some unanticipated results! It captures the experience of the fans as they embark on a European adventure, twenty-four years after our Euros debut.

Running a very close second and third place was "I-R-E-L-A-N-D! The Offside Trap - feat. MC Eoin Goal" and "Pedalling to Poland"

So here is the winning entry and the two runners-up entries, we all look forward to the follow-up songs when Ireland win the Championships.......
