Dundalk FC Horse Race Night

Dundalk Stadium, Ireland’s only all-weather horse racing stadium and dual purpose horse and greyhound track, is the venue for one of Dundalk FC's marquee events of the year. National and local personalities will be attending the race meeting at Dundalk Stadium which features the Listed Diamond Stakes on Friday 26 September with the first race commencing at 6:40pm.

Special guests John Delaney, FAI Chief Executive, and Marco Tardelli, Republic of Ireland Assistant Manager and World Cup Winner, will be there to provide a real football theme on the night and it promises to be a great night's entertainment.

Entries are expected from several of Ireland’s top trainers including Aidan O'Brien, Jim Bolger, John Oxx, Dermot Weld and Ger Lyons. Top Jockeys Johnny Murtagh, Fran Berry and Pat Smullen who are all currently vying for the title of ‘Champion Flat Jockey 2008’ will also be riding at the meeting.

For Dundalk FC, this is a fundraising night with the proceeds going to the club’s ambitious Youth Development Project and local group Hilltop Services who are part of Saint John of God's, who provide specialist services to people with special needs.

Dundalk FC are delighted that John Delaney and his FAI colleague Marco Tardelli have committed to the event and it shows a real commitment from the FAI in regard to supporting our domestic league. “When asked, John immediately stated he would be delighted to come to the event and help in any way he could,” stated DFC Promotions Officer, Paul Johnston. “This shows a real commitment from John and the FAI towards assisting clubs in their fundraising endeavours as they face challenging financial conditions in the current environment.”

Emma Meehan, Sales & Marketing Manager for Dundalk Stadium, stated: “We have been working closely with Dundalk FC to assist them with this fundraising venture for some months now. This gala fundraising event which coincides with an exciting programme of racing on 26 September is certain to be a memorable occasion for all in attendance.”

The first race commences at 6:40pm. An eight-race greyhound card will follow the horse racing at 10pm onwards.
