Cork City will welcome Watford FC to Turner’s Cross for a summer friendly on Tuesday 24th July.

Watford, previously owned by Elton John, finished 11th in the English Championship last season. Their highest ever finish in the league came in 1982/83 when they were runners-up to Bob paisley’s Liverpool in the old First Division. They also appeared in the 1984 FA Cup final, losing 2-0 to Everton.

Watford have a number of Irish players on their books, with Dubliner Mark Yeates having signed for the club at the start of last season from relegated Sheffield United. Yeates has U21 and ‘B’ caps for the Republic of Ireland while midfielder Sean Murray is another to have won caps at underage level.

Dublin born Rene Gilmartin is currently Watford’s second choice goalkeeper while youngsters Connor Smith, Tommie Hoban and Jack Bonham are all making strides towards the first team via the club’s youth academy.
